Description

The YY VerticalBoard First is a beginner-friendly hangboard designed for progressive finger strength development.
It is best suited for climbers who want to start structured finger training with accessible grip depths and room to progress.

What this solves
Beginner climbers often lack a structured way to build finger strength safely and progressively. Many hangboards are either too difficult or do not provide enough progression options.

How this solves it
The VerticalBoard First offers larger, more accessible edge depths that allow gradual loading of the fingers.
It also supports progression through optional inserts, enabling climbers to reduce edge size over time as strength improves.

Why this tool
Unlike more advanced hangboards, the VerticalBoard First focuses on accessibility and progression. It provides a solid entry point into hangboard training, though some elements—such as the steeper sloper—can already be challenging for true beginners. Compared to other beginner options, it sits in the middle: more progressive, but not the simplest starting point.

Best for
Beginner to intermediate — for climbers who want to start finger strength training with a board that allows progression over time.

Max Climbing's Verdict

A well-designed and versatile board, similar to the Light version but with more variation. The option to use magnetic inserts to reduce pocket depth is a strong feature, allowing the board to progress with you over time. It also supports elastic band use, which helps keep it accessible in the beginning. The steeper sloper is more demanding than the rest of the board, but also adds room to grow into harder grip positions later on.

👉 A strong first hangboard for climbers who want something accessible now but still useful as they get stronger.

great for a beginner at the hangboards

Great that there is room for an elastic band, this helps me with the more difficult grips and learning to do the pull ups.
